Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I run instead of walk?
    • Of course! We know that some people might even run the course twice! Please join in as you’re able… walk, run or you might prefer to watch from the event hub.

  • How do I share my fundraising page?
    • When you view your page, you will see a ‘Share’ button alongside the usual ‘Donate’ button.

When you click on ‘Share’, you will see various options to share via Facebook, SMS, Email or to copy the link.

  • Are donations tax-deductible?
    • Yes! Donations over $2 are tax-deductible. Your friends and family can donate any amount they like to support you. Remember… every little bit will make a difference for children and families in Ukraine.

Your family and friends can find you or your team here. You can also share the link to your personal fundraising page on Facebook or by email.

What do I do with cash donations from family and friends?

      Follow these easy steps:

      1. Deposit the funds into the ALWS account, details as follows:

      • Commonwealth Bank, Account name: ALWS Overseas Aid Fund
      • Account number: 0093 0721
      • BSB: 062 500
      • Reference: Your full name + postcode + WMW (if space allows!)

      2. Send an email to alws@alws.org.au with the following details:

      • Your name
      • The amount deposited
      • The date deposited
      • The full names, addresses, email addresses and amount donated of any of your supporters who require a tax receipt and/or who wish to be acknowledged on your fundraising page (note that we can’t issue receipts to ‘Nan’ or ‘Aunt Mary’ - full names are required!).

      3. We’ll take care of the rest! We’ll send out receipts to your supporters who need them, and add their names to your fundraising page so their donation is added to your total. Hooray!

  • Who’s organising Walk My Way Ukraine?
    • Walk My Way Ukraine is an initiative of ALWS (Australian Lutheran World Service), an accredited Overseas Aid and Development Agency. You can find out more about ALWS here.

  • Can children participate in the walk?
    • Yes! We would love to see children of all ages (and their families!) participate in Walk My Way Ukraine.

The Community Hub will include activities for children and will provide them with a unique insight into Ukrainian culture… they could try Ukrainian cuisine and watch cultural dances and singing.

Please note that children under 12 are required to walk with an adult/guardian.

  • What is included in my ticket?
    • Your ticket price includes your involvement in a 3km or 12.5km walk along the iconic Brisbane River. You’ll also receive a walker number and a special Walk My Way Ukraine t-shirt at the event check-in.

Your ticket price also includes a mapped out course with course marshals and first-aid providers and live entertainment and food stalls at the Community Hub, including activities for children in the Kids Zone.

But the BEST NEWS is that your registration fee counts towards your fundraising tally and the difference we’ll make for the people of Ukraine! The registration cost for children of $26 can provide drinking water for a child for a month and the adult registration cost of $52 can provide emergency shelter for a family for a month.

  • What happens after my walk?
    • We invite you to enjoy the Community Hub after you’ve completed your walk. You might like to sit down and enjoy performances of traditional Ukrainian cultural dance and singing. You could also purchase some traditional Ukrainian cuisine and crafts.

  • Can I bring my dog?
    • Yes, you are welcome to bring your dog to Walk My Way Ukraine. Please be aware that you are responsible for your dog’s behaviour at the event. We ask that you consider the enjoyment of other participants by keeping your dog on a lead at all times and clean up any mess it makes. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted to run the course.
